First Postal Meter

The first postal meter to be commercially produced and distributed was invented by Arthur Pitney, assisted by a businessman named Walter BoWes and Bowes’ stepson, Walter Wheeler. Pitney filed a patent application in Stamford, Connecticut for the world’s first postage meter on December 9, 1901.
